Description More about this product
Turquoise first came to Europe via Turkey, probably accounting for its name, which is French for "Turkish". Beads made from Turquoise dating back to c.5000BCE have been found in Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq), making it one of the first gems to be mined and cut.
Almost always Turquoise is cut in "cabochon". Handmade, this particular ring was created in Portugal in the 20s. Portuguese jewelery art is famous for the high quality of the gold, which is 19kt, and the very decorative design details of the handwork.
Granulation is one of the techniques used to decorate this ring.Granulation is a process that causes very small gold beads to adhere to the surface metal, through heat, with no apparent solder. Granulation can be applied in designs or lines to form textures or designs. This has been a popular way to decorate and texture jewelry items since ancient times. The technique has been known since Etruscan times and was revived in the 19th century.
Another peculiarity of this beautiful ring is the upper part that opens to reveal a small secret hiding place. All of the upper part is decorated with 8 cabochon-cut Turquoise and 9 antique-cut Rubies. The ring is in very good used condition with normal signs of wear commensurate with the age of the jewel.
